News letter - April 2007You will all be sorry to learn that Rosemary Linn's husband, Ian, passed away recently after a long illness. The Club sent a card to Rosemary and some members attended the funeral. When he was well, Ian was an active member of our Club and we send our condolences to Rosemary at this sad time. We start our new year with 51 paid up + 2 life members. News from the A.G.M.We had another successful AGM on 24th March. The speaker was a Mr Stuart who told us 'Tales and Mysteries of the Moor'. This was an excellent and amusing talk together with a very professional presentation. Members enjoyed the usual 'self catering' tea. Thanks are given to those who worked so hard to do all the clearing up in the kitchen. Some members have shown interest in changing the order of the meeting so that next year we may have speaker/formal meeting/tea; meaning that we can socialize during tea in a more relaxed fashion and hopefully avoid the scrum in the kitchen! The usual Officer Reports were read. When it came to the Election of Officers I am pleased to report that as there were no nominations for the post of Treasurer, Pete Kidds volunteered to take on this post and saved the Club. We are grateful. All other Officers were re-elected. Most present renewed their annual membership. This remains at £4 per single person and £6 for a couple. Would those who wish to re-new for 2007/8 please see the enclosed reminder slip. Thank you. In order not to deter new members, it was agreed to amend Rule No.4 on our membership card. Instead of prospective new members having to undertake three walks before they join, they now may do these walks if they so wish, before committing. Discussion took place regarding how best to use Ken Newlands legacy. Ideas forthcoming were a year's free membership, a day trip to St Ives but after discussion the most favoured and what we will now organize, is a DAY TRIP TO THE EDEN PROJECT. See below for further details. The coach for this will cost in the region of £400 and again after discussion, it was decided to keep the remainder of the legacy back for the time being as we do not know for example, how much the cost of developing any future web site will be. News from the CommitteeWe are pleased to confirm that the day trip to The Eden Project will be on SUNDAY 10th JUNE. This is a fantastic venue and offers something for everyone. Indoors/outdoors/eating places and the odd shop! See the attached slip and booking form for full details. As a token of our appreciation, it has been decided to invite Ken Newlands sister. We are fortunate in that a husband of one of our members is willing to help with the setting up of a web-site. A small group from the Committee will be making arrangements to meet with him and discuss our requirements. It is thought that we are continually losing potential members as the internet is where people are tending to look for information these days. So we must have a web site if we are to move into the 21st Century! I hope to have more information in the next newsletter. Trip to the Eden ProjectDetails of the above trip are as follows:
