Introduction

Walking Kit

Walkers joining the club should ensure when walking with us that they have the following
  • Walking boots or an equivalent
  • Waterproof clothing
  • A rucksack suitable for carrying
    • a packed lunch
    • sufficient drinks
    • spare clothing
  • spare footwear to change into after the walk

Car Sharing and Transport

We usually operate a car share scheme whereby we meet at Bampfylde Street (behind Focus) before making our way to the start of a walk. This is particularly useful when there is limited car park space at the walk start point. Members are expected to make a contribution of 8 pence per mile towards the cost of the petrol etc.
Some of our walks take advantage of Public Transport and are noted in our walks programme.

Distance

All the mileage given in the description of specific walks is for general guidance only.

Completion

After the walk it is an option to stop at a café for afternoon tea.

Dogs

It is a rule of the club that dogs are not allowed on our walks.

Disclaimer

The Exeter Rambling Club, neither the walks leaders nor any individual in the club, accepts responsibility for ANY circumstances which may arise during or as a consequence of a walk. Walkers safety is their own responsibility and individuals are advised to check their own accident insurance and should take due care at all times.

Accidents

In the event of any accident which requires medical treatment the leader should inform the Secretary as soon as possible after the completion of the walk. In addition the Secretary should be notified of any damage, injury or alleged trespass involving a third party.

Walk Etiquette

There are a few minor points to bear in mind:
  • Do not walk in front of the leader unless invited to do so.
  • Listen and respond to any instructions the leader may give regarding routes and breaks. Be ready to move on when the leader requests. There is usually 5 minutes notice given.
  • Please, when walking, let the leader or back marker know if you are leaving the group for a "comfort stop" or for any other reason.
