My paternal great great grandfather was John Richardson and his wife was Eliza Morris, born 1811. He was a solicitor (see Morris' birth certificate) born in 1800 so had children late.

Great grandfather Morris Richardson JP Staffordshire, born Burton on Trent June 1849 - Educated at Cambridge. Died Hurley House, Hurley aged 74, 26 Feb 1924, late of King's Standing, Burton-on-Trent. Address end of war 1918/9 Hurley, Berkshire. Also at Cranesden, Mayfield, Sussex 1904

Eldest son John Sherbrook born 1877 killed 1917.

My paternal grandfather - Morris Ernald Richardson, DSO, Legion de Honour, Croix de Chevalier, Mentioned in dispatches four times, born 22 August 1878 - died aged 50 - 14 January 1929 at Landhurst, Hartfiled, Sussex.

Married 18th January 1905 at St Mary Abbotts, Kensington to Olive Katherine Soames

Education Charterhouse left 1897 and Trinity Coll, Cambridge BA. Recommended for Commission by Vice-Chancellor 28 April 1900.

Commissioned 23 May 1900 to the XX Hussars in India. South Africa War April - May 1902 star and bar, Made Captain 1906. Ireland 1909 - 1911 - commanded of escort to King and Queen on their visit to Dublin. Adjutant to 1st Devon Yeomanry 1911-14. 1912 in Devon winning Point to Points on The Pedlar. Returned to XX Hussars as Major OC 'A' Squadron at outbreak of war. Immediately in action with the First Expeditionary Forces when XX Hussars were on the right flank at Mons and thereafter formed part of the rearguard during the retreat from Mons from August 1914. (It was at Mons in 1914 that Lt Harold Martin Soames, brother-in-law of Morris and also in XX Hussars was killed in action on 26 August.) In 1915 he was acting Lt. Col. in command of Northumberland Fusiliers. He was wounded 1916 during battle of the Somme - DSO. Later he became acting Brig. General in command of 45th Infantry Brigade.

After the war he commanded of Infantry Garrison at Plymouth. In 1919 he took command of XX Hussars when they went to Egypt and Asia Minor. In 1921 he retired due to ill health as a result of his injuries.

Older brother - John Sherbrook, born 1877, educated Charterhouse and Trinity College Cambridge. A solicitor. Married in 1903 to Beatrice they had two children. He enlisted in May 1916 under the Derby scheme and commissioned in a battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers commanded by his younger brother, Lt Col MER. Went to the front 13 February and was killed in action at Mons on 9 April 1917.

Sisters Dorothy married Etienne Boileau 4 October 1904. Another sister Kathleen

(Miss K Richardson violin (older sister) and Miss L Richardson bassoon Grassendale 1897 at King's Standing.
